We commission and interpret traffic, speed and parking surveys to inform transport assessments, design and decision-making.

Surveys are carefully scoped to provide meaningful, independent, robust evidence, avoiding unnecessary data collection while ensuring an appropriate understanding of baseline conditions. We advise on survey methodology, duration and coverage in line with industry best practice and local authority expectations.

Results are presented clearly and used to support conclusions on traffic flows, vehicle speeds, access visibility, parking stress analysis, road safety and capacity, helping to inform practical and deliverable solutions.

FEATURED PROJECT

High Street, Pontarddulais

Apex provided transport planning and highways advice to support an outline planning application for the redevelopment of a brownfield site on High Street, Pontarddulais, to deliver up to 150 residential dwellings.

Apex oversaw and approved the preparation of a comprehensive Transport Assessment and Travel Plan to support the application and provided ongoing technical support throughout the planning process, including post-application engagement with the highway authority.

The transport evidence including obtaining a number of traffic surveys at key local junctions to inform traffic modelling and background conditions including the level of HGV movements locally. We also obtained speed surveys to inform the design of site access junctions.

Planning permission was granted in 2024.

Apex provided transport planning and highways advice to support an outline planning application for the Cardiff Peninsula development, a major mixed-use waterfront regeneration scheme.

The proposals comprise approximately 1,000 residential apartments, 300 co-living units, 11 townhouses, a 220-bed hotel, around 30,000 sqm of employment space, alongside retail, food and drink, community and leisure uses. The proposed masterplan will create a new and vibrant waterfront development for the community to live, work, relax and visit.

Apex prepared a Transport Assessment and Framework Travel Plan to support the application, with a particular focus on sustainable connectivity, active travel and reducing reliance on the private car.

Cardiff Peninsula

Apex provided expert highways and transport consultancy support for a proposed residential development of 125 homes at Farleigh Fields West, Backwell. The project progressed to a Public Inquiry, where Apex acted as expert witness for highways and transport matters.
