We undertake vehicle swept path analysis to demonstrate that proposed access arrangements, junctions and internal layouts can safely accommodate the vehicles expected to use a site.

Our analysis uses appropriate design vehicles and specialist software to assess vehicle manoeuvring at different speeds. We model swept paths and forward visibility from vehicles negotiating bends, changes in alignment and gradient. This provides a robust understanding of how layouts will function in practice, particularly for service, refuse and emergency vehicles.

We focus on the critical movements that matter to decision-makers, including turning, reversing and access to key servicing areas. Outputs are presented clearly and used to inform and refine site layout and access design, helping to identify constraints early and support safe, deliverable solutions.

We treat swept path analysis as a design tool that shapes the layout, not just a technical box to tick.

FEATURED PROJECT

Bengrove Solar Farm, Gloucestershire

Apex provided transport and highways advice to support a planning application for the Bengrove Solar Farm, a circa 15MW renewable energy development in Sandhurst, Gloucestershire.

The scheme required extensive consideration of access routes to and from the site, with swept paths informing a mitigation strategy on the highway for construction vehicles and the access road layout within the site.
