At the planning stage, this typically includes a Stage 1 Road Safety Audit, which provides an objective assessment of potential safety issues associated with proposed access arrangements, internal layouts and highway mitigation. We review the audit findings carefully and, where appropriate, refine the design to address identified issues. Where required, we prepare a clear designer’s response, setting out how all recommendations have been considered. This is submitted to and agreed with the overseeing organisation.
As schemes progress, we also support Stage 2 Road Safety Audits at the detailed design stage, working closely with auditors to ensure safety considerations are fully integrated into the developed design.
This includes coordinating audits, reviewing findings and supporting the preparation of Stage 3 and 4 summary reports in line with DMRB requirements.
Our approach considers the design in the round, supporting safe and deliverable proposals without introducing over-engineered or unnecessary design prescription, particularly at the planning stage.
We work collaboratively with clients, auditors and highway authorities to ensure Road Safety Audit outcomes are clearly addressed, helping schemes progress efficiently and appropriately from planning through to delivery.
