Our Transport Assessments adopt a vision-led approach, starting with an understanding of how a development is intended to function as a place. We consider the role of walking, cycling and public transport from the outset, ensuring transport solutions support the overall design vision. This approach helps shape access arrangements, internal layouts and movement patterns in a way that aligns with placemaking objectives and policy expectations.
Transport Assessments set out how proposals align with national and local policy and guidance, including the National Planning Policy Framework, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, DMRB, Future Wales, Active Travel Act Guidance and Planning Policy Wales. We assess access arrangements, trip generation, sustainable travel opportunities, junction capacity and highway safety, identifying clear and appropriate mitigation where required.
Our focus is on delivering practical, realistic solutions that support both high-quality places and the safe, efficient operation of the transport network, helping proposals progress positively through the planning process.
Transport Statements are prepared for smaller developments, or proposals where transport impacts are likely to be more limited.
Our Transport Statements provide a concise and focused assessment of access, parking, servicing and sustainable travel. They apply the same vision-led principles as our Transport Assessments, scaled to the nature of the proposal, and are written to clearly address the matters of interest to planning and highway authorities, providing reassurance and supporting timely, informed decision making.
We provided transport planning advice to support both an outline planning application and Environmental Impact Assessment for a proposed development at Cardiff Peninsula, a major mixed-use waterfront regeneration scheme.
The proposals comprise approximately 1,000 residential apartments, 300 co-living units, 11 townhouses, a 220-bed hotel, around 30,000 sqm of employment space, alongside retail, food and drink, community and leisure uses.
Our support included a detailed Transport Assessment which considered the impact of the proposals across the network, as well as ensure sustainable travel was prioritised and integrated into the scheme from the outset.
