We provide transport planning and engineering advice for residential developments of all scales, from small infill sites to large strategic allocations and urban extensions.

We prioritise walkable neighbourhoods, high-quality cycling connections and realistic public transport provision, in line with national and local planning policy. We support projects from early feasibility through planning, detailed design and adoption, helping to shape layouts that work for residents, developers and authorities alike.

Typical considerations include access strategy, internal street design, parking provision, active travel connectivity, the assessment of development-generated trips, and the technical approval and adoption of new streets and sewers.

FEATURED PROJECT

Farleigh Fields West, Backwell

Apex provided expert highways and transport consultancy support for a proposed residential development of 125 homes at Farleigh Fields West, Backwell. The project progressed to a Public Inquiry, where Apex acted as expert witness for highways and transport matters.

Our role included preparing a comprehensive Transport Assessment and Travel Plan for the planning application and a detailed Proof of Evidence for the appeal, addressing the full range of highways, access, sustainability and network capacity issues raised during the planning process.

The appeal was allowed, with planning permission granted in April 2025.

Apex provided transport planning and highways advice to support an outline planning application for the Cardiff Peninsula development, a major mixed-use waterfront regeneration scheme.

The proposals comprise approximately 1,000 residential apartments, 300 co-living units, 11 townhouses, a 220-bed hotel, around 30,000 sqm of employment space, alongside retail, food and drink, community and leisure uses. The proposed masterplan will create a new and vibrant waterfront development for the community to live, work, relax and visit.

Apex prepared a Transport Assessment and Framework Travel Plan to support the application, with a particular focus on sustainable connectivity, active travel and reducing reliance on the private car.
