About the project

Apex provided transport planning and highways advice to support a planning application for residential development on land off Lawn Road, Ashleworth.

The proposals comprised the development of 17 residential dwellings on land promoted by Lantar Developments, brought forward to deliver housing that complements the existing village setting and adds value to the local community.

Apex was appointed to prepare a Transport Statement to support the planning application, with a particular focus on site access arrangements and connectivity by sustainable modes of travel.

THE CHALLENGE

Additional considerations during the project

The key transport challenges related to demonstrating that suitable and safe vehicular access could be achieved and that the proposed development would not result in unacceptable impacts on the local highway network.

It was also necessary to demonstrate that the site could be appropriately connected to the existing village by walking, enabling access to local facilities without reliance on the private car.

OUR APPROACH

From initial masterplanning input through to planning approval

We provided initial site feasibility advice to the client to inform their land purchase. Following this, we provided support for the planning application.

This included preparing a Transport Statement, addressing access arrangements, highway safety and sustainable connectivity.

A detailed site access drawing was produced, incorporating appropriate geometry and visibility splays to safely accommodate all vehicle movements generated by the development. The access design was reviewed and agreed with the highway authority.

To support sustainable travel, we designed a mitigation scheme to deliver a new footway connection between the site and the existing village infrastructure. This included minor localised widening and adjustments to the highway geometry to improve both pedestrian safety and vehicular movement past the site.

The assessment demonstrated that the site is suitably located to access key local facilities within reasonable walking distances and that the proposals would be accessible by a range of travel modes.

THE OUTCOME

Planning permission achieved

The approved scheme delivers new residential development supported by safe access arrangements, improved pedestrian connectivity and a transport strategy that integrates effectively with the surrounding village environment.
