Our work typically focuses on managing travel demand during peak pick-up and drop-off periods, promoting sustainable travel choices and ensuring safe, inclusive access for all users. We consider the needs of pupils, students, staff, visitors and service vehicles, with particular emphasis on pedestrian safety, cycle access and the management of vehicle movements at busy times.
We regularly advise on school and campus travel plans, access and internal layout design, parking and drop-off arrangements, and the integration of education facilities within the surrounding transport network. We work closely with highway authorities, education providers and facility management teams to develop practical, deliverable solutions that support safe operation and positive planning outcomes.
Apex provided transport planning and highways advice to support development proposals at St David’s College, Cardiff. The proposals comprised the demolition of an existing teaching block and construction of a new two-storey teaching facility in its place.
Apex was appointed to provide transport advice to inform the planning application, with a particular focus on understanding existing travel behaviour and the sustainable connectivity of the site for students and staff.
A particular issue related to peak drop-off and pick-up periods and the management of parking activity on nearby streets.
We provided masterplanning advice on vehicular and pedestrian circulation within the site, ensuring that movements could be managed safely and efficiently. In addition, we prepared a Travel and Car Parking Management Plan, setting out measures to maximise the use of sustainable modes of travel and ensure effective management of on-site parking.
