Energy and waste developments often present unique transport and access challenges, particularly in rural or sensitive locations, or where proposals involve large-scale infrastructure, construction compounds or abnormal load deliveries. We work closely with project teams and stakeholders to identify issues early, develop robust access and mitigation strategies and support planning submissions with clear, credible evidence.
Our experience includes renewable energy generation, battery energy storage systems, grid infrastructure and waste management facilities. We advise on construction traffic impacts, abnormal load routing, temporary access arrangements and operational vehicle movements, and can design the site accesses and highway works needed to deliver them. This helps develop practical, deliverable solutions that support both construction and long-term operation.
We coordinate transport strategy and engineering design with wider environmental and planning considerations, particularly on complex infrastructure projects delivered over a number of phases. Our approach helps address stakeholder concerns while keeping projects moving confidently through planning and delivery.
Apex Transport Planning provided transport planning and highways advice to support a full planning application for the Bengrove Solar Farm, a circa 15MW renewable energy development on land east of Base Lane, Sandhurst, Gloucestershire.
The proposals comprised the installation of photovoltaic solar panels across approximately 24 hectares of agricultural land, together with associated infrastructure, access tracks and security measures.
